FDNY officials provide an update on off-duty rescue in Brooklyn

The FDNY has 16 Surf Rescue Companies throughout the city. The members of these companies have a higher level of training due to their proximity to the ocean and some more tools in their toolkit to handle water rescues. Every year, the FDNY responds to hundreds of water emergencies, most often when lifeguards are not on duty. Take precautions when swimming in pools and in the 520 miles of water that make up the city’s coastline. Only swim when a lifeguard is present. Go to FDNYSmart.org for more
