Chillicothe's Papermaking History

Papermaking is one of the four great inventions of ancient China. Since the early 8th century AD, Xuan paper has been the best medium for calligraphy, painting, and printing of classics. It has characteristics such as softness, durability, and resistance to insects and decay, which cannot be replaced by machine-made paper to this day. As the birthplace of Xuan paper, Jing County in east China’s Anhui province had its papermaking techniques included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intang
