Yf-23 vs F-22: Did the Air Force take 2nd best?
Dec 1, 2006 · The YF-23 prototypes are 67.4 feet in length and have wingspans of 43.6 ft. During the Advanced Tactical Fighter program, one YF-23 was powered by twin Pratt and Whitney YF119 turbofan engines, while the other had two General Electric YF120 turbofan engines installed. The aircraft achieved a speed of around Mach 1.8 throughout the program.
Yf-23 vs F-22: Did the Air Force take 2nd best?
Dec 2, 2006 · When launching missiles on the YF-23, the missiles came down in "racks", one on top of another in fewer bays. This allowed the aircraft to use less space to carry more missiles. However this was a major design flaw, because if a missile malfunctioned and didnt launch, the missile above it would not launch either.
Yf-23 vs F-22: Did the Air Force take 2nd best?
Dec 4, 2006 · And about YF-22 vs. YF-23 - I think that the main point was what I already studied at university - and its marketing. There is no need to have the best plane, but you must have the plane that is able to meet USAF requirements (no matter how stupid they are) as best as possible. And this is (my opinion about) why YF-23 lost.

The point of the LRS (Long Range Strike) bomber is to have a rapid response to any theater in the world. The B-2 though stealthy is a slow bomb truck and rapid response is not in it's nature. The B-1 upgrade may make a good LRS but the airframe …

Jun 9, 2005 · The thing about COL Lanni's bio that strikes me as odd is the "first flights" claim. Both the YF-22 and YF-23 were flown by Lockheed and Northrop test pilots (Dave Ferguson and Paul Metz respectively) before any Air Force pilots got to fly them. Even the B-2 had a Lockheed test pilot (Bruce Hinds) at the controls while COL Couch sat Co-pilot.

Apr 20, 2017 · The other, is along the lines of aholic's musing, that the companion is related to the Tacit Blue and the YF-23. It's pretty clear that both designs were from the same shaping data, as they both had dorsally-mounted engines, trapezoidal wings, butterfly tails, and both of them relied on pronounced chines to shield the RCS's of their fuselages.

Feb 26, 2013 · For this particular test they fixed those stabilizers at 20 degrees dihedral (similar tilt to the YF-23), but they posited that the system could be able to change that angle. A system that allows you to rotate the whole control surface and actively adjust it to whatever dihedral (or, potentially, anhedral) angle the situation demands could be ...

Dec 19, 2019 · The Raider left off details, as most do. The inlet is probably due to them running into a few issues designing it. The exhaust is going to be a closely held secret, similar to how the B-2 is. It's most likely going to be similar to the YF-23 at a guess.
