Where is the wave The Wave is located in the Coyote Buttes North Special Management Area, which is located within the Paria Canyon/Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. This land of geological and scenic wonders is overseen by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and straddles the border of Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.

For hiking to the Wave on May 10th, you would have needed to apply for the online permit lottery in January. Your only other option at this point is to take part in the in-person permit lottery, which is held the day before you wish to hike.

Fortunately there are plenty of sites you can visit free of charge, or close to, in the Page, AZ and Kanab, UT area. Some of these are: Horseshoe Bend – $10/vehicle, open sunrise to sunset (best to go at sunrise for cooler temperatures and thinner crowds)
