Jan 20, 2020 · So after drilling many less than accurate holes on my cheap floor model drill press and using an even cheaper HF drill press vice. I started to look how to improve my chances. I replaced the factory chuck with an older Jacobs 1/2 inch keyed chuck and that improved the run out substantially.

Oct 4, 2024 · This was a solid price on an older Palmgren drill press vise, even though the "USED 2 TIME LIKE NEW" claim made by the posting is unlikely (there were several drilling missteps evident on the vise, as seen in attached photo). It was packaged very well, and shipped fast.

Mar 2, 2010 · A vertical head with a quill on any decent mill, combined with a DRO on the table, will let the machinist skip several operations necessary on a standard radial or conventional drill press -- Namely marking out the workpiece, and then positioning the spindle accurately over each marked position.

Nov 8, 2011 · The only tooling that comes with the machine besides the adapters are two arbors the cutters mounted on them and a vise. The rest of the tooling that could be used with the mill are being sold separate and they wont include it in the deal.

Feb 19, 2008 · If you're going to do it right, don't forget your Van Norman vise and Rotary Table. None of my literature mentions the 16 in the interchange listings, although my collecton is meager at best (Mike C - remind me to get you a copy).

Jan 18, 2015 · It's a 1947 vintage Van Norman #12 horizontal/vertical milling machine. For those not familiar, Van Norman mills have a rotating cutter head that can swing anywhere from 0* (vertical) to 90* (vertical) and have an overarm support for horizontal arbors.

May 29, 2007 · IDL uses their own unique drive. It's like a grooved barrel that sits into the quill. There are two different ones. One with a 1/2 square male for sockets that drive core drills and reamers. Another with a tang drive for seat counterbore cutters and bowl hogs.
