TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance has until Sunday to sell the platform under federal legislation signed into law by President Joe Biden last spring.

TikTok said it will have to “go dark” this weekend unless the outgoing Biden administration assures the company it won’t enforce a shutdown of the popular app after the Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld the federal law banning the app unless it’s sold by its China-based parent company.

The Supreme Court upheld a law today that could ban the wildly popular social media app TikTok in the U.S. starting on Sunday, unless its Chinese owner agrees to sell it before then. The justices unanimously rejected TikTok’s First Amendment challenge and argued that Congress was entitled to effectively outlaw the app for national security reasons.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday ruled against TikTok's bid to avoid a ban that could shut the app down in just two days and impact millions of users who rely on the platform for entertainment, ecommerce and ad dollars.
