The previous AAP government in Delhi, during its 10-year tenure, chose not to implement the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, citing the existence of the Delhi Arogya Kosh which provides free treatment to Delhi residents.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY): This component covers hospital expenses for secondary and tertiary care for low-income families. Delhi residents previously excluded from the scheme. Senior citizens, who now qualify for coverage even if they don’t meet income criteria.

The implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme was among the first decisions taken by the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Cabinet.
