According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the lane was shut between junction 18 for the M49 and junction 17 for Cribbs Causeway. It reopened and traffic returned to normal shortly before 6pm.

Inrix said: "Traffic easing, earlier accident on M4 Prince of Wales Bridge Westbound at J22 M49." There are traffic delays on the M5 ahead of rush hour this afternoon (Tuesday, January 28).
