Rifai, or “Abu Khadija,” was “deputy caliph” of the militant group and “one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world,” the statement said, as reported by CNN.

On his Truth Social platform Friday night, President Trump wrote that "the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed."

The killing comes as the group has been reconstituting in Syria, carrying out more attacks than at any time since it lost control of its territory nearly six years ago.
