Taking steps to resolve the impasse with protesting doctors, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke to them over the phone on Saturday and urged them to withdraw their fast-unto-death, saying most of their demands had been met.

The call was made using the mobile phone of Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, who, along with Home Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Indira Mukherjee, visited the protest site at Esplanade in central Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee urged protesting doctors to rise above politics and return to work, stating that people are dependent on them and need their services

Banerjee spoke to the doctors by phone and urged them to end their "fasting unto death" protest. She promised to sympathetically consider their demands and also expressed her willingness to meet with the junior doctors at Nabanna on Monday.
