TSA reveals huge total of guns intercepted at US airports last year – and 94% were loaded - A total of 6,678 firearms were found in the carry-on bags of passengers throughout the US in 2024

Airline passengers attempted to bring significantly fewer firearms into security checkpoints at Detroit Metropolitan Airport during 2024 as compared to recent years, the Transportation Security Administration reported.

TSA reports a decrease in guns seized at NYC area airports, with 42 guns detected in 2024 compared to 51 in 2023.

Transportation Security Administration officers have stopped a record-high total of 16 firearms at the International Airport in 2024.

The TSA at Newark Liberty International Airport stopped 21 firearms at airport security checkpoints, an increase over the 20 stopped the year prior. This number has been steadily increasing at Newark since 2019, when TSA agents intercepted 11 loaded guns.

Despite the overall decrease, TSA officers intercepted a record-high number of guns at Newark Airport last year.
