An employee then allegedly produced a firearm and discharged a shot, "which is believed to have struck the suspect," the release stated. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, which was located by detectives a short distance from the doughnut shop. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

A frequent customer of Golden Donuts said she was shocked to learn what happened, saying “this store is such a wonderful place, they have wonderful people working there”

It happened around 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the Golden Donuts on Harper Avenue. Police say the man, believed to be in his mid-30s, came in with a gun and demanded money. That's when an employee pulled out a gun and fired a shot, which is believed to have struck the suspect.
