With her eyes almost entirely obscured by the rim of her wool boater-style hat, Melania Trump stood next to president-elect Donald Trump on stage at the inauguration ceremony as he pledged the oath of allegiance.

As Vogue puts it, designers and the industry can no longer ignore that a significant portion of the U.S. voted for Trump.

As Barack, 63, Bill, 78, and Hillary, 77, entered the U.S. Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C., on Monday for the 78-year-old’s historic swearing-in ceremony, people at the Capitol One Arena could be heard loudly booing.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is in attendance at Trump’s inauguration, his wife, former second lady Karen, is not. Karen Pence snubbed the Trumps earlier this month at Carter’s funeral, where she ignored Melania Trump’s efforts to shake her hand.

Melania Trump kicked off Inauguration Day with an outfit that has all the hallmarks of her favoured first lady style: sharply cut, with spiked heels and a dramatic flourish via the headgear. It is simultaneously serious and chic.

During Trump's 2017 luncheon, he called for a standing ovation for Hillary Clinton and forecast four years of “peace and prosperity” under his administration.
