Porsche is working on a new combustion SUV that will supplement the electric Macan.Matthew Hansen Porsche’s electric Macan is currently making waves in New Zealand as the carmaker’s first electric SUV.

As well as new 911 derivatives, it’s likely that Porsche will also develop a new combustion-engined SUV to sit alongside the electric Macan. It has confirmed that the Macan will remain all-electric but an additional model could be on the cards.

Namely, the long-rumored electric Cayenne will arrive this year, according to a statement made by Porsche's CEO Oliver Blume. Like the Macan Electric, battery-powered versions of the Cayenne will be built on a completely new platform, manufactured and assembled in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Afterwards, Porsche will stick to its plan to sell the Macan purely as an electric SUV. But that leaves a gap in the brand’s line-up for a mid-sized SUV running combustion engines, and today Porsche CEO Oliver Blume announced a new model to fill that hole.

Porsche will continue producing gas and hybrid cars alongside EVs well into the 2030s, and a new one arrives this year.

Porsche says its lineup could expand to include another SUV by the end of the decade. And no, it's not the Cayenne EV slated to launch later this year. Heck, it won't even be an EV. Surprisingly, for something that hasn't even been officially announced yet,
