Newark also isn’t alone when it comes to major transformations. An extensive project at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is also underway, which will eventually debut a brand-new Terminal 1, a new Terminal 6 (which will connect to Terminal 5), an expanded Terminal 4, and a revamped Terminal 8.

The plan, announced Thursday by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, includes replacing the rickety AirTrain network and the airport’s dilapidated Terminal B.

Newark Liberty International Airport is embarking on a major overhaul of its terminals, air train and parking facilities, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced on Thursday.

No price tag, timeline or construction procurement status for the major work were disclosed in an Oct. 17-released vision plan that was developed with design firms Arup and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The plan — which the Port Authority said is on par with its $8 billion reconstruction of LaGuardia Airport and ongoing $19 billion transformation of John F. Kennedy International Airport — will allow Newark Liberty to accommodate passenger growth.
