Coloradans bundling up ahead of this weekend’s arctic blast should also plan on keeping their homes cozy, particularly water pipes that can freeze and burst during subzero cold snaps.

A lot is happening in the Denver weather forecast as snow, blustery winds, and arctic air settle in to the region for the next several days.

Crack a faucet farthest from the place where your water enters the house. A very slow drip will keep water molecules moving, reducing the chance that pipes will freeze. Place a bucket underneath the faucet so the water can be saved for other household uses.

An arctic blast will send temperatures across the United States plummeting as bitterly cold air that originated in Siberia will arrive from Canada by week’s end, bringing with it dangerously cold wind chills for millions of Americans.

After a small snow event in early January, a cold snap is headed toward the Southeast next week, dropping temperatures into the teens with a chance of snow.
