The pileated ... woodpecker nesting in their yard. I immediately dropped everything to visit and take a look. Sure enough, a pair had excavated a nest cavity and was getting ready to lay eggs.
So, it was with a great sense of wonder and satisfaction that I just happened to notice one of the big woodpeckers ... the eggs, which takes 18 days. Then, the chicks hatch and the real work ...
