These and other GLP1-RA diabetes/weight-loss meds can also boost outcomes for folks battling chronic kidney disease, new research shows.

A latest research led by Dr Shuyao Zhang, an assistant professor of internal medicine at UT Southwestern in Dallas reveal the benefits of GLP1-RA medications that perform better in helping slow the progression of kidney disease.

These drugs, called GLP1-RAs (short for glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists), have been found to reduce hospital visits, slow kidney disease progression, and lower the risk of death for patients with both diabetes and kidney disease.

A well-known class of drugs used to manage type 2 diabetes and control weight could offer hope for patients who also struggle with related chronic kidney disease (CKD), researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center found.
