The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate how a man died after being arrested by Memphis police officers Tuesday morning.

Officers discovered a gun during an arrest Thursday that had been stolen from a Memphis Police officer months earlier. The gun was discovered Thursday when officers went out to the Shelby Pointe Apartments to pick up a man who had an active warrant,

MPD investigators said the officers were concerned because the man was walking towards a nearby elementary school.

A man is now dead after suffering from a medical emergency while in police custody Tuesday morning in South Memphis.

Memphis Police (MPD) said officers responded to a shooting on South Parkway East off Latham Street and found a man had been shot. He was in critical condition when he was rushed to Regional One Health, police said. Police said Wednesday morning that the man had died.
