You would need to get the Shinkansen (bullet train)to Kyoto from Tokyo and then change to the local Tokaido-Sanyo Line in Kyoto to then get to Yamazaki Station. Only a short walk …

You would need to get the Shinkansen (bullet train)to Kyoto from Tokyo and then change to the local Tokaido-Sanyo Line in Kyoto to then get to Yamazaki Station. Only a short walk from there! Not sure what time your earliest Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto would leave, but we caught one headed that way from Odawara (Hakone area) at 6:15am one of our days.

aloha, I believe going into the museum area & gift shop would be OK for a 16 year old. I don't know about the tasting room. I suggest go to the Yamazaki Distillery website & ask via email. I tried to make reservations through their website with little success. Someone in our group who is from Osaka, called & was able to make reservations for our group of 7 adults. My conclusion, having a local call helps. If you are staying at a hotel that offers good service, have one of the staff call for you as as last minute option. reservations.

Besides the coin lockers at the distillery reception desk, the ever-pleasant and polite reception staff may keep any large luggage inside the reception area for you.
