A good place to see the carnival bands in on Ariapita Avenue. Many of them pass along the avenue over the duration of both days. There's always lots of people there so it's always safe. There's a wide variety of food there and lots of drinks on sale. If you want to see the bands better and be out of the crowd, you could also pay to see the bands from the rooftop lounge of one of the many clubs that lines the avenue.
