How much time would you need to allow to really take in the battlefield? Also, the Visitor Center gate closes at 5, park grounds close at 8 - can you still drive through the grounds past 5 without being behind locked gates? Thank you in advance for your help!

You should give yourself at least 4 to 5 hours to be able to get a good view through the park. I would try to be out of the park by 5 pm.

I'm not sure, however , I was there a couple of weeks ago and we virtually had the place to ourselves on a Sunday. Apparently this is their off season. No actors but plenty to do. There was also scheduled tours. Had we opted to do the battlefield tour, we would have had the guide to ourselves.
