St. Mullins, at the southern end (downriver), is a magical place. Well worth a visit. The walk to Graiguenamanagh is lovely, as is Graiguenamanagh. The section north of Goresbridge is very picturesque. Carlow to Maganey is rather interesting, though Carlow itself isn't great. The section at Levitstown Mill, north of Maganey, and the mill itself is very interesting, with an unusual lifting bridge over the canal section. Athy is an interesting town with very interesting parts of the river and the canal that joins the Barrow there. See in particular the Horse Bridge. There is an old railway bridge just downriver, which can be crossed. There are some interesting websites, but TripAdvisor won't allow me to list them!

sorry Ann for the delay, never saw the question. Anyway there aren't guided tours to my knowledge but it's not necessary anyway as it's very straight forward all the way down, you won't get lost except to get lost in the tranquility of the place. Really one to enjoy but be prepared for a good long walk.
