The walk between Bark Bay and Torrent Bay (on the Remote coast trip) is spectacular. You will cross the suspension bridge, one of the highlights. This walk is one of my top five favorites, ever. Unfortunately, I haven't visited the northern section so I can't offer a comparative opinion.

Sadly no ideas. We stayed in Te Anau and drove 120km to get to Milford. Limited and pretty basic facilities in Milford from what I can gather.
